Il designer Alexander Girard ha riscosso un grande successo con il suo concetto di interni per la leggendaria Miller House (1953-57), per la quale ha selezionato personalmente ogni singolo oggetto. Il fulcro della casa era un cosiddetto 'pozzo della conversazione', un'area salotto affondata nel soggiorno, con divani incorporati rivestiti in tessuti Girard e decorati con cuscini ricamati realizzati appositamente per questa ambientazione. Il famoso motivo a doppio cuore di Girard è stato utilizzato e variato dal designer per tutta la sua vita. È composto da due S che si intersecano e formano un ciclo continuo di cuori specchiati. Ogni S rappresenta la prima lettera dei nomi di animali domestici usati da Girard e sua moglie - Sandro e Susie - che lo ha spinto a nominare il doppio simbolo del cuore 'Sansusi'. Il cuscino ricamato con il motivo "Double Heart 2" è stato creato da Alexander Girard per la famiglia Miller nel 1975 - 20 anni dopo il completamento della Miller House.
